Title : Irrawaddy River Delta, Myanmar March 1996

Caption :

The vast delta of the Irrawaddy River is visible in this east-looking view. This extensive delta, with several channels, empties into the Andaman Sea (right portion of the image). The Irrawaddy begins its journey to the Andaman Sea 1300 miles (2093 km) to the north in northern Myanmar (Burma) at the confluence of the Mali and Nmai Rivers. The river flows generally southward through central Myanmar. The intensive agricultural area of the vast delta is one of the world’s leading rice producing regions. The southern extension of the forested Pegu Mountain Range, which is just north of the capital city of Rangoon, can be seen near the upper left of the image.
