Title : Phytoplankton Bloom in the Celtic Sea
Caption :
The satellite provided a cloud-free view of a large phytoplankton bloom in the Celtic Sea Off France and Ireland, in this image captured on May 21, 2001. The brightness of the water suggests that this may be a coccolithophore bloom. The bloom, which looks a bit like a stylized ''F'' and ''e'' tipped over backwards, covers an area roughly 35,000 square kilometers (approximately 13,000 square miles).
