This true-color image shows Lake Balkhash in Kazakhstan. The large river at the southwestern end of the lake is the Ili River. To its northeast is the Karatol River. Lake Balkhash has no outlets, and it is highly saline as a result. At the bottom of the image is Ysyk Kol, a large mountain lake in Kyrgyzstan.
