Title : Phytoplankton Bloom in the Bay of Biscay
Caption :
The bright phytoplankton bloom in the Bay of Biscay off France appears to have spread some since its initial sighting on May 15, 2001. In this satellite image taken three days later, the bright patch in the southeast corner of the Bay appears to cover roughly 15,000 square kilometers (approximately 5800 square miles). Farther northwest in the Celtic Sea, similar blooms can be seen. Spain is visible.
