Caption :

This artist's concept shows the International Space Station when its assembly sequence is completed in 2003, with a third connecting module, or node, attached to the station. The third node, a U.S. component that will be built by the European Space Agency in return for the launch of the ESA laboratory on the Space Shuttle, was added into the planned assembly sequence following a meeting of all international partners in September 1997. The 1 million-pound station will feature a pressurized volume equal to two jumbo jets and an acre of solar panels. (January 26, 1998)
