Title : Klyuchevskaya Volcano, Russia October 1994

Caption :

Klyuchevskaya Volcano, Russia October 1994. In this spectacular image, the snow-covered Klyuchevskaya Volcano and its shadow (center of the image) can be seen in this north-looking view. The week before this image was acquired, Klyuchevskaya had one of its largest eruptions in over 45 years, depositing ash on its summit and to the southeast of the volcano. Snowfall has covered the ash and other materials deposited by the eruption of the volcano. Klyuchevskaya is a 15584-foot (4652 meter) high stratovolcano, that is located on the central Kamchatka Peninsula of far eastern Russia. The volcano is the highest mountain in eastern Russia and it is part of the Pacific “Ring of Fire.” Across the top of the image, the Kamchatka River is discernible
