The largest of the atolls in the Tuamotu Archipelago, Rangiroa Atoll can be seen in this north-looking view. The Tuamotu Archipelago comprises 78 low islands or atolls scattered over hundreds of miles (kilometers) in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. It is the world’s most extensive atoll archipelago. Rangiroa Atoll is 42 miles (78 km) long and 16 miles (24 km) wide and is the second largest atoll in the world. The largest atoll in the world is Kwajajein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Rangiroa Atoll has an irregular, elongated shape. The atoll is world famous for its unsurpassed scuba diving and has some of the clearest waters in the world.
